What is Laughter Yoga?
"Laughter boosts the immune system and helps the body fight off disease. It's an instant vacation." – Dr. Patch Adams.

I was drawn to Laughter Yoga because, let’s be honest, as we get older, we just don’t belly laugh enough. Isn’t it magical to watch children laugh uncontrollably, totally caught up in the joy of the moment? When was the last time you really let go and laughed like that?

I first experienced Laughter Yoga about 16 years ago when I brought it into a session with my work team. I’ll admit, I was a bit standoffish at first, thinking it was all a bit silly. But before I knew it, I was laughing so hard I couldn’t stop… and it felt amazing, like something in me had been set free. That stayed with me.

So, in March 2024, I trained with a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader through Laughter Yoga International, the original school founded by Dr. Madan Kataria. Now, I’m honoured to share this joyful, healing practice with others—to help shake off stress, shift stuck energy, and reconnect to the pure medicine of laughter.

What is Laughter Yoga?
Laughter Yoga is a playful blend of intentional laughter exercises, deep yogic breathing, and movement that lifts the spirit and nourishes the body. Founded in 1995 by Indian physician Dr. Madan Kataria, this heart-opening practice has since spread to over 100 countries as a tool for healing, connection and inner peace.

How Laughter Yoga Works
-
Voluntary laughter (even fake laughter works!)
-
Breathwork (pranayama)
-
Gentle movement and stretching
-
Clapping and chanting
-
Playful exercises
-
Eye contact and group connection

Your body doesn’t know the difference between real and simulated laughter—both create the same chemical shifts. Within minutes, laughter triggers a cascade of endorphins, relaxes your nervous system, oxygenates your blood, and lifts your vibration.
